Pastor-Teacher Job Description

We are looking for a pastor-teacher who loves and treasures God’s word. He must be a personable, caring shepherd who relates well to people from all walks of life, wisely and graciously encouraging them to grow in their love for Christ in unity. Additionally, we look forward to reaching our community as we enfold new believers, equip them for life and godliness, and entrust them with ministry. We are committed to embracing, loving, and serving alongside our new pastor-teacher.

Our new pastor-teacher will be...

A Biblically qualified elder. (1 Timothy 3:1-7, 5:17-22; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; Titus 1:5-9, 2:1; Acts 20:25-35; Galatians 5:22–23; 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; Hebrews 13:17; James 5:14 and I Peter 5:1-3). It is the duty of every Elder to exercise prayerful and diligent oversight of FBCW, watching over the souls thereof as one that must give an account, to promote the edification of each believer and earnestly seek the salvation of the lost. As the first among equals on the elder board, our pastor-teacher will assess the church’s need and purpose through the lens of Scripture, establish a vision with the other elders, and lead in the implementation of that vision.

Faithful Teacher. Our pastor-teacher will prepare sermons exegetically and preach expositionally from the entire Bible, leading to gospel-centered application.

A Courageous Shepherd. Our pastor-teacher will have a clear call and ability to shepherd, guard, and love the people of God. His example will lead others to walk closer with Christ. He will participate in regular visitation of the flock and practice hospitality.

Disciple Maker. Our pastor-teacher will be marked by a profound sense of the grace of God, and as a recipient of this sanctifying grace, disciple others to grow in their love for Christ.

Great Commission Leader. Our pastor-teacher will have a commitment to lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission, of seeing the lost be made disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Missions-Minded Leader. Our pastor-teacher will lead the church to grow in their love for local, national, and international missions that build up the body of Christ.

Trainer of Leaders. Along with the elders, our pastor-teacher will be looking for those gifted and qualified men to train up as Elders and Deacons as well as those men and women who would be teachers and youth leaders.

Unifying Leader. Our pastor-teacher will unite and lead the church with a vision and purpose that follows Christ’s example.

Family Man. Our pastor-teacher, if married, will demonstrate a marriage of integrity, reflecting Christ’s love for the church. His relationship with his wife and children (if any) will reflect his spiritual leadership.

Godly Man. Our pastor-teacher will be gentle, humble, and above reproach. He will be a man of God, full of integrity, who walks by the Spirit and manifests the fruit of the Spirit.

Prayerful Man. Our pastor-teacher will be a devout man who exemplifies dependence on the Lord through prayer in all matters.

Sensible Man. Our pastor-teacher will exhibit a sober mind, self-control, good judgment, and wisdom in all areas.

Wise Counselor. Our pastor-teacher will biblically counselor, depending fully on the sufficiency of Scripture.

The church’s Commitment to it’s pastor-teacher: As a church, we long to mature in our walk with the Lord. We are eager to grow in gospel-driven, intentional, person-to-person disciple-making. In addition to our corporate worship services, we also desire more opportunities for instruction from God’s word to grow in wise living and be a light to our community. We wish to be vibrant and active in our service to God through this local body. We are committed to following and trusting our senior pastor and elders as they shepherd and lead us.

In addition to the above, the pastor-teacher and elders have the following responsibilities at FBCW:

⦁ Oversee all affairs of FBCW.
⦁ Shepherd the flock of FBCW including visitation of its members.
⦁ Oversee all aspects of preaching and teaching the Word of God.
⦁ Preside over baptisms, weddings and funerals.
⦁ Oversee the Men’s Ministry.
⦁ Approve all other FBCW ministry policies and procedures.
⦁ Provide assistance in the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
⦁ Oversee all aspects of FBCW membership including the membership process. Review the membership list annually and give a report at the Annual Business Meeting.
⦁ Oversee the selection process of Officers, Deaconesses and FBCW Staff
⦁ Shared financial oversight with Deacons in preparing the annual budget. The budget will ultimately be approved by the congregation at the annual business meeting in January.
